St John the Baptist Church
Cathedral Square
You found page 4 of the chronicle. It reads: IS
The chronicle next names the church in the old market place. The parish church once stood elsewhere. In February 1402 the citizens and tradesmen of Peterborough agreed to ask the Bishop of Lincoln for leave to pull the old church down and build again here, in the middle of the market, west of the great abbey.
The first service in the new church was held in June 1407, when the Abbot of Peterborough said Mass. The market place around it is now called Cathedral Square.

Only a few steps now. Look for a chamber standing on stone legs, raised so the market could shelter beneath it, with royal arms painted on its gable.
